Backup has always been good at one thing: getting your data back when something goes wrong. What it has never been good at is helping you *find* something inside years of protected files. You know the photo exists. You know the invoice was somewhere in 2024. But hunting for it means guessing folder names and scrolling through thousands of thumbnails.

Two features coming soon to Loop Backup Agentic are built to fix exactly that: **AI Search** and **AI Explorer**. Neither is available yet — both are in development and will arrive as BETA features for Early Access users. Here is an early preview of how they work.

## AI Search (coming soon): ask for what you remember

AI Search lets you describe what you are looking for in plain language instead of typing an exact filename. Ask for "red bike on the beach" and it searches across everything you have backed up — photos, documents, videos and other files — and ranks the results by how closely they match.

What you can see in the preview above:

- **Natural language queries.** No filenames, no folder paths, no tags to maintain.
- **Match confidence on every result.** Each file shows a similarity score so the strongest matches are obvious at a glance.
- **Grouped result types.** All results, Images, Documents, Videos and Other are separated with counts, so you can jump straight to the kind of file you want.
- **Refine as you go.** Narrow by content type, date modified, file size, similarity threshold and file location, and sort by relevance.
- **A search summary.** It tells you how many files were searched and how long the search took, so you know the whole backup set was covered.
- **Saved searches.** Keep a query you run often and re-run it later.
- **Knows where the file physically lives.** If a match sits on a drive that is not currently connected, the result says so and names the drive, for example "Offline: SanDisk USB 64GB" or "Offline: SD Card - Camera", so you know exactly which device to plug back in.

Search covers everything you have ever backed up, including external media you unplugged months ago, and AI Explorer carries the same offline drive labelling when you open the files behind a node.

Documents are matched on their contents too, not just their names — a holiday plan that mentions renting bikes on the beachfront surfaces alongside the photos.

## AI Explorer (coming soon): see how your data connects

AI Search is for when you know what you want. AI Explorer is for when you don't. It turns your backup into a visual map of people, places, objects, categories and files, and shows how they connect.

![AI Explorer — a visual map of the people, places and files in your backup (preview of work in progress)](https://mobmbavhtptpyrjueinr.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/blog-images/desktop-gallery-v5/ai-explorer-feature.jpg)

In the preview above, a person node sits at the centre with connections out to family members, holidays, places like Spain and France, objects such as a bike, and content categories like Documents, Photos, Videos and Invoices. Solid lines are direct connections; dashed lines are related ones.

- **Pick any node** to see a breakdown of what sits behind it — photos, documents, videos and other files, each with a count.
- **Follow related nodes** to move sideways through your data instead of drilling down through folders.
- **Change the layout, zoom in and out, or go full screen** when the map gets busy.
- **Open the files** behind any node in one click, then restore what you need.

You can also switch between the visual map and a plain search view from the same screen, and apply the same filters.

## Better together

The two features are designed to be used in sequence. Start with AI Explorer when you are not sure what you are looking for — it shows you the shape of your data and the connections you had forgotten about. Switch to AI Search when you can describe the file, and let the similarity ranking put it at the top.

Both feed into restore. Once you have found the file, the version you need is one click away in Loop Backup Agentic's restore view, with point-in-time backup selection and side-by-side version comparison.

## Your data stays yours

AI Search and AI Explorer work against the backups you already hold with Loop Backup. Your data stays encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit, and it stays in the storage region you chose — Loop Backup operates 27 data-centre locations across 20 countries, so you can keep everything in your own jurisdiction.

## When can I get them?

Both features are **coming soon**. They are not in general release yet: they will land as BETA features in Loop Backup Agentic for Early Access users first, alongside the rest of the Agentic desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux. The screenshots in this post are previews of work in progress, so details may change before release.

If you want them as soon as they ship, register for the Loop Backup Agentic Early Access programme — Early Access users get new features first, and there is a free 14-day trial with no credit card required.
